English as a Second Language (ESL)

Ceci vais écrire en anglais pour vous aider à pratiquer et améliorer vos compétences de la langue anglaise.

Ludwig Wittgenstein (one of the greatest philosgophers in the 20th century) wrote

Die Grenzen meiner Sprache bedeuten die Grenzen meiner Welt. ‘
‘ The limits of my language define the limits of my world. ‘

I first heard this quotation explained in my philosophy class at my school.   Admittedly some years ago! Although what Wittgenstein meant exactly will probably always be beyond my understanding, I at least began to appreciate the two essential ingredients for good communication between people throughout the world:

  • The importance of clarity and precision
  • The immense benefit of having a second language

Hence my passion for language.

I also get a lot of pleasure by sharing the interest and fun I have with the English Language.  A big thank-you therefore goes to Cindy Mobey, who played  a  pivotal role in the initial building of our website.  For it was Cindy, who inspired my realisation of how our website may play part in helping people improve their English Language skills.

ESL contains Private Blogs for the exclusive enjoyment and benefit of our ESL Student Guests, who stay with us and have 1-2-1 English Language lessons.  The ESL menu can therefore only be accessed by those, whom we give permission  to.  There are 2 types of these Private Blogs.

  1. A blog, that is marked ‘ Protected ‘ and shows in the title the start date of the Guest’s stay, is Password controlled.  It is a journal of their time with us.
  2. A blog, that is marked ‘ Private’,  is only made available in the 1-2-1 Lessons.  It contains  mostly articles and essays about either the UK or the English language, that we discuss solely in our private tutorials.

Please email me at bnbcharente@gmail.com, if you wish to participate or indeed share something, especially about language or culture.  Anything funny or quirky is a winner!   I look forward to hearing from you

Thank you for your interest.
